Why Tefogo?

Tefogo stands for Technology For Good. We know we’re not the first people who want to use technology for good (or indeed who don’t want to use it for evil). But we believe that it’s unusual enough that we wanted to put it at the heart of our company.

Working on problems with a wider societal benefit means that the team working each day knowing the products they are building and servicing can help people and make the world a better place. This motivates us to build the very best products we can, knowing that our users will use them to help other people.

Approach

We work hard to understand our customers’ industries and to speak their language, but we know that we will never know their world as well as they do.

We work closely in partnership with the people who know those industries best. This creates a winning combination of our love for technology with their deep industry insight, and that perfect fit can be seen in the work we do. We think the best ideas often come from the people who know the problems first-hand, who are closest to the action. We are always listening for where there are pain points, and looking to see if technology could help. There is only so far you can take things from the comfort of your computer. So we get working prototypes into the hands of front-line staff as quickly as possible, and then polish and refine ruthlessly based on their feedback.

We’re geeks at heart, we love technology and everything it can do. But we don’t expect our users to be. We see our job as understanding everything that technology can do through the eyes of the user who just wants the technology to get out the way and help them do their job. This often involves being pragmatic and choosing the most sensible technology for the job – we’re fine with skipping the bleeding edge and choosing something that is proven to work if that gets the best results for our users. But it can also involve making the latest technology simple and accessible for everyone too.

Doctors, nurses and other carers look after us at our sickest. We build the technology to make their lives simpler and easier, so they can focus on their patients.

Education

Teachers and those supporting them can help shape the next generation, but need great technology to help those children thrive.

Charity / third sector

Charities across the world take on some of the toughest challenges in society, and deserve the technology to support this work.

Rehabilitation and reform

We believe that people deserve a second chance, and that prison should be for rehabilitation, not just punishment.

In the longer term, we aim to work on products that can offer societal good across any and all industries.

Our Products

We build, sell and support our products ourselves.

We’ve been excited about the possibility of smartphones and tablets since the first iPhone burst on to the scene over a decade ago (one of us might even have gone to New York just to get one early), and still believe that for the right problems, mobile applications can stand head and shoulders above desktop or pure web equivalents.

Inherently mobile, where being able to use technology on the go is vital.

Live, where instant access to information (including instant notifications) are valuable.

Visual, benefiting from users being able to take pictures and videos.

Spread across locations, where geolocation can help (including as a data source).

Complicated, but capable of being broken down into simple, focussed steps for users.

Require interaction with physical assets, through technology like NFC, QR codes or Bluetooth.

Involve a wide variety of users, who are not necessarily technology experts but need to adopt the technology quickly and easily.

Generally requiring access to data or simple data entry, rather than heavy data entry from the user (a keyboard and mouse still wins out for those problems).

Mobile-first doesn’t mean exclusively mobile, and we make the best use of web-based software where that makes sense for our users. We can’t see ourselves doing desktop applications any time soon, but never say never.
